WWF No Mercy N64 Gameplay
As wrestling games go, WWF No Mercy is the gold standard for me. At a time when wrestling was enjoying peak popularity and wrestling games were being released willy nilly, No Mercy really stood out from the crowd with an impressive roster of 65 superstars, different types of wrestling matches such as hell-in-a-cell and ladder matches, and a legitimately impressive array of moves that were fully customizable.
It’s predecessor (Wrestlemania 2000) was a phenomenal game in its own right, but if you had to pick one of the two, I’d always recommend No Mercy. If you really want to have some multiplayer fun, get a few controllers and jump into a tag-team ladder match. The carnage is real.
There’s no doubt that No Mercy is one of the best 4-player N64 games that you can get your hands on. If you’re a fan of grappling games, check out some other great wrestling games for the N64.
Perfect Dark N64 Gameplay
Often seen as the spiritual successor to GoldenEye, Perfect Dark is a truly fantastic game and many believe it to have the best multiplayer action of all the games for the Nintendo 64.
With the option of splitting the screen 4 ways, and customizing your own battle arena with AI sims of different difficulty levels, you could really make this game your own. I mean, who doesn’t enjoy mowing down hordes of meat sims?
The single player mode in Perfect Dark was also much better than it had any right to be. With a well-written story, charming characters, and a friendly alien called Elvis, there’s really not a lot that can be disliked. Perfect Dark is easily up there with the best 4-player N64 games.
Gauntlet Legends N64 Gameplay
Although Gauntlet Legends was not too well received by the critics, for me it is one of the most fun games for the console and a real blast when it comes to 4-player N64 games.
You can play as a warrior, archer, valkyrie, or a wizard. My personal favorite was the valkyrie, as it was a good all-rounder class with good melee and ranged attacks. In multiplayer mode, though, you can combine all the classes together and let the chaos ensue.
Gauntlet Legends also boasts an impressive variety of enemies and diverse levels that will take you to all kinds of environments. If you have never played this game yet, grab a friend and give it a go. You won’t regret it.
Mario Kart N64 Gameplay
Mario Kart is one of the ultimate multiplayer games in all of its iterations, and the Nintendo 64 version is no exception. In the 4-player mode, you have the option of doing a standard race, or a slightly more chaotic battle mode race. Each is equally as fun.
Granted, the game is a little bit ugly graphically, and that puts a lot of people off. But that doesn’t really matter too much, at least for me, when the multiplayer gameplay is such a blast.
There’s a reason why so many love this franchise, and if you’re yet to try any of the games, this a good place to start.
GoldenEye N64 Multiplayer Gameplay
Perhaps the greatest multiplayer game of all time. Everyone of a certain era will have memories of playing GoldenEye, and many of those people will recall hating having to go up against the miniscule Oddjob, who seemed to have a penchant for karate chopping you in the nether regions no matter who was controlling him.
Whether you played as Boris or Bean, Bond or Natalya, everyone had their favorite and most loathed. When it comes to the best 4-player N64 games, you’d be hard pressed to find a better one than the legendary GoldenEye 007.
