4. In Sound Mind
In Sound Mind is one of the more intriguing horror games on this list. Developed by We Create Stuff, this indie horror title has a stylish aesthetic and smooth looking gameplay that aims to explore the fragility of the mind.
Not much is known about this psychological horror so far, but from what we’ve seen In Sound Mind looks set to be a trippy ride of uncertainty and otherworldly terror.
3. The Outlast Trials
When the Canadian game developer Red Barrels burst onto the horror game scene with the 2012 release of Outlast, it was evident that they were a company to keep an eye out over the coming years.
After the successful Whistleblower DLC and sequel Outlast 2, the developers are returning in 2021 with The Outlast Trials, an upcoming psychological horror multiplayer game set before its predecessors.
The game is destined to be terrifying and, judging by their previous releases, we can be confident that The Outlast Trials will be one of the best horror games of 2021.
2. The Medium
This one feels like cheating a little bit as The Medium will actually be released in Q4 of 2020. Yet, it looks so good that we’re including it here to give the psychological horror game some hype.
The Medium is developed by Bloober Team, the same company that produced Observer, so right off the bat we know it’s going to be a good one. Inspired by the surrealist artwork of Zdzislaw Beksinski, players take on the role of Marianne as she explores the spirit world and encounters hostile entities.
In a change of gameplay style from Observer, The Medium is played from third-person perspective in order to enhance the immersion and the horror elements of the game.
Based on Bloober Team’s previous record, The Medium will likely be one of the best new horror games to be released over the next few years.
1. Resident Evil Village
After the huge success of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and the subsequent revival of the series, the next major release by Capcom was always going to be a big ask. With Resident Evil Village, it looks like they’ve met expectations, and then some.
From what we’ve seen so far, Resident Evil Village will be another spine-tingler to say the least, with masterful first-person horror gameplay and the return of some fan favorites to the series.
Those looking forward to the new horror games of 2021 will undoubtedly have a keen eye cast over the progress of this one.
