You quickly learn in KCD that having a handful of Saviour Schnapps in your inventory at all times is extremely useful if you want to be able to save the game at your leisure.
You can buy Saviour Schnapps from a lot of traders, sure, but you can also make it yourself using the cool alchemy system that KCD has to offer. Here’s how to make Saviour Schnapps in Kingdom Come Deliverance.

How to Make Saviour Schnapps
Step 1 – Gather the Ingredients
First of all, you’ll have to acquire the necessary ingredients. Fortunately, there isn’t much you’ll need to make Saviour Schnapps. All you need is 1x Wine, 1x Nettle, and 2x Belladonna.
You can get all this stuff from any apothecary, or you can go scavenging the fields and forests for the ingredients yourself. Nettle and Belladonna are fairly ubiquitous herbs throughout the KCD map, and you shouldn’t have any difficulty finding some. Belladonna is a bit harder to find than Nettle but there is an abundant spot in a field southeast of Rovna.
Step 2 – Find an Alchemist’s Bench
The next thing you need to do to make Saviour Schnapps is to locate an Alchemist’s Bench. There are 8 of them in total in the game, and the first one you’re likely to come across is in Rattay, just behind the Alchemy shop. Go past the shop on the right hand side and you won’t miss it.
Most of the other alchemy benches are owned by Herbalists that typically live near the major towns. There are also two benches at Sasau Monastery – one on the inside, and one in the grounds outside run by Brother Nicodemus.
Step 3 – Brew the Potion
Now that you’ve got the ingredients and located an Alchemist’s bench, it’s time to start brewing the potion. There are a few steps required to make Saviour Schapps, but they’re all easy.
First, interact with the book to the right of the alchemy station and flip through until you find the recipe your after. Even if your reading skill is low (it should be at least 1 though), you should be able to figure out what it says. Either memorise the process or write it down for ease of access. Automatically lay out the ingredients required for the recipe by pressing the command as shown on the screen (hold X for the PS4).
Next, add the base to the pot. In this instance, it is wine. Then add the nettles to the wine and bring to a boil by intermittently pumping the bellows. This should be done for 2 turns (a turn is measured by flipping the hourglass and waiting for the time to run down), but I’ve found that it works simply by bringing it to a boil and then allowing it to cool down right away.
Once the mixture has cooled, grind the Belladonna with the mortar and pestle and add it in. Bring back to a boil for one more turn and then allow to cool.
All that’s left to do now is to grab a phial from the shelf to the left of the pot and dump in the potion.
Step 4 – Drink your Saviour Schnapps!
Now that you have successfully bottled your Saviour Schnapps potion, you are free to use it whenever.
These potions are incredibly useful, especially if you are playing without mods that allow you to save the game whenever. I always keep a handful of them on me before embarking on the main story missions, just so I can save at various points throughout the mission, without having to worry about going back to a far gone checkpoint if I die.
Where to buy Saviour Schnapps
If you think that making your own Savior Schnapps is a bit of a faff and not a worthwhile time investment, don’t worry, there are plenty of places to buy it. In fact, if I’m completely honest, more often than not I would buy my Savior Schnapps potions.
Nearly all alchemists, traders, and innkeepers have the potion in store. So if you’re running short and time and need some saving potion, you’ll never be too far away from a merchant selling it.
How to Make Marigold Decoction
Another very useful home brew to master at the Alchemist’s Bench is the Marigold Decoction healing potion. It’s another fairly simple recipe to make and requires few ingredients. You’ll just need 1 x Nettle, 2 x Marigold, and some Water.
To make it, add Water as the base to the Cauldron. Add the nettle and bring the mixture to the boil. Allow the brew to cool down before adding the Marigold. Then, simply grab a phial and pour the brew into it.
